We Live In Interesting Times
We live in interesting times. After having survived and, for the most part, thrived for more than 200 years, our Republic is most likely facing the final test of its resilience in overcoming what at times seem insurmountable obstacles and unbeatable odds.
The battle is about who should reign supreme, the individual or the state. The battle is about whether the state should be a servant of the individual, as our Founding Fathers envisioned, or the other way around, as the statists advocate. For the past 100 years, the state has gained the upper hand and our freedoms, liberties and individual rights have become more and more restricted.
Brave Americans continue to put up a fight, looking to our Founders for direction, but that fight lacks moral and political clarity. Too often do the alleged supporters of liberty try to beat the statists on their home court using their playbook, instead of formulating a principled strategy based on individual rights.
In this blog, I will focus on one of the cornerstones of that principled strategy – the total separation of state and the economy. Not primarily because it will lead to unimaginable prosperity although it will. No, my focus will be on the fact that total separation of state and the economy is morally and politically the right thing to do; if you’re a champion of individual rights, it should be part of your vision, part of the end goal you’re working towards. It is the only political and economic end state that fully and completely respects the individual rights of all men.
Nothing less than total separation will end the institutionalized sacrifices we experience today – of one man to another, of the individual to the group, of one group to another, of minorities to majorities, and majorities to minorities; nothing less than total separation will fix individualism firmly in its seat.
I hope you’ll come along for the ride!
