Well said. Subverting ones critical thinking to unchallengeable dogma in one area of life makes it more likely to occur in other areas too. We don't need god to be spiritual. And we can be spiritual without magic.

I have never sat down to write out why I am an atheist, and have been since basically my first ability to think. But if I had, I would hope it would be as well explained as this has been. This is terrific, and very succinct. Though I do differ in one respect - I much prefer Dean Martin and Nat King Cole for "Baby, It's Cold Outside", and " The Christmas Song" to the more religious Christmas carols. I just can't ever get past the lyrics in the religious ones.

Thanks for a clear exposition. I too have many friends who are religious. It is sometimes surprising how many values we share.
